Come on Cold! Cant wait for ice fishing!

Well last year I was on the ice catching my first fish of the season 2 days from now, not going to happen this year!  It has been unseasonable warm and ice I dont see fishable ice anytime soon here in the metro area.  Temps should be dropping soon, we need some good 0 to 10 degree lows to get the lakes to start locking up.  Soon as we get 3" I will get out and have some reports to share.  First target will be pike and bass with tipups while jiggin for some slab crappies and catch a few gills in the meantime.

Giant Fish Eats a Huge Turtle!

A 150-kilogram Queensland grouper washed ashore on Townsville Strand in Queensland on Wednesday had swallowed a green turtle whole before it died, experts say.

DPI veterinary pathologist Dr Ian Anderson found the dead 40-centimetre turtle inside the 2.2 metre long groper following an autopsy on the giant fish this week.

Groupers are classed as "top level" predators, and are known to  eat spiny lobsters, fish, small sharks, turtles and stingrays.

Queensland's biggest recorded grouper measured more than three metres long and weighed 288 kilograms.
Dr Anderson said when he arrived at Townsville Strand on Wednesday the fish was lying on its side in shallow water and in obvious distress.

"It died a short time later and we have taken a number of samples for further analysis," he said.
"I do not believe the grouper's final meal of a juvenile green turtle actually killed the fish and there were no external injuries."

"But the lining of the stomach was red and inflamed so I'm waiting on bacteriology tests to find out the cause of death which should be finalised by next week."

Minnesota DNR News Release - Trophy buck illegally shot in Goodhue Count

(Released November 12, 2009)

State conservation officers recently seized a record-book deer rack and filed poaching charges against a Cannon Falls man.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources investigation stemmed from an incident where three deer, including a trophy 8-point buck were killed by archery in three separate incidents near Cannon Falls in October.

According to the complaint, Troy Alan Reinke, 32, admitted to conservation officers that he had shot a small doe and a small buck on separate dates in early October, and failed to tag or register either of the deer. Reinke said he shot the large 8-point buck, with a 185 green score, on Halloween evening. A green score is an unofficial score to rate deer antlers (inches of length).

Conservation officers seized a bow, two deer racks, the meat from the three deer, and the hide from the large buck as part of their investigation.  Restitution for the small buck and doe is $500 each. Restitution for the trophy buck is $1,000.  Reinke also faces other fines and court costs, and could have his hunting pr  ivileges revoked for three years if convicted. A trial date has not been set.

Anyone witnessing wildlife or fishing code violations is encouraged to contact the nearest conservation officer, law enforcement agency or the toll-free Turn-In-Poacher (TIP) hotline at 800-652-9093. Also, #TIP is available to most cell phone users in Minnesota.  People should contact the Minnesota State Patrol or a DNR regional or area office for the name and phone number of a conservation officer in their area.

Fishing pictures from some of my recent minnesota metro area outings.

Come on Ice! Ice Fishing in Minnesota is coming soon!

Reports are kinda slow right know as we are in a transition season.  Too dam cold to get out much and not cold enough to make ice.  Soon as we get a couple inches of ice the local metro area reports will be here!  For now enjoy some of my tips, stories, videos, and pictures.  I will still try to make a few reports but I dont anticipate being out much until the ice comes.

This blog is still in its early stages and I am trying to get more visitors and followers as the winter approaches.  I love fishing with a passion, hence the name of this blog, and I really enjoy sharing my experiences and helping others catch more fish.  If your interested in linking to my site, I would be more than happy to link to any of your sites that are related.  Just shoot me an email, ChadJAndersonFish@Gmail.com.  Also feel free to send me any videos, pictures, reports, or anything else that could be usefull on my blog and you will certainly receive the credit!

This is a low quality picture I know, but still worthy of showing!  My biggest crappie to date at 15.5".  The picture was a couple winters ago on a metro lake, the fish house is pretty dark and only had my camera phone.  Fish bit around 10pm on a jig in shallow water.  A lot of the slabs we get come late at night, so be patient and give the late night bite a try, 10 to 2am has been a good window for slab action on ice!

11/7/09 Fishing Report

Got out on Saturday, sure was a nice day but was a little windy for me. Went out in search of some big pike and came up empty handed. I picked a lake that doesn't have much for numbers, but great size potential for the metro area. Tried bucktails and crankbaits and stuck to shallower water and structure. I feel like I could have done better had I tried a little longer but its gets dark early and it was cold in the wind. I cant wait to get out on the ice! Bring on the hard water season!

Big Cranks Baits - Fall Minnesota Fishing

This is the time of year to throw the biggest cranks you got, for pike and for bass. They are usually wanting big baits right now, you just cant go too big!  Try casting on the edge of weedlines and keep your crank near the bottom, its a good thing to be ticking weeds and structure as this often triggers strikes.

Fall Crappie Bite - Minnesota Metro Area Fishing Tip

The Crappie bite is going ok, not super aggressive but fish can be had. There are 2 patterns producing now...one would be early ice spots, deeper water on the edge of basins. You can actually fish this pattern as if you were ice fishing, use your electronics if you can to find some schools, anchor and fish right over the side of the boat. This however is not the only option right now, there can be a shallow bite found especially on sunny warmer days. Try a minnow under a bobber on the weedlines and dont be afraid to even try up over the weeds.

Fall Muskie bite is on in minnesota!

Sounds like the Muskie bite is really picking up. The big girls are feeding hard. Stick to shoreline structure with big spinnerbaits, bucktails, and even some topwater baits. The fish are shallow, on the edge or right over the weeds. Many multiple fish days being reported after a slow fall/late summer.
